If you live in our service area, you can surrender your pet to us. If your pet is healthy and has not displayed any unadoptable characteristics, we will make your pet available for adoption. Learn more about how to surrender your pet.

No, cats do not have to be licensed. Only dogs over 4 months old have to be licensed.

Have the pet scanned for a microchip at a veterinarian clinic, by an Animal Care Officer, or at a shelter.

Search for the owner using social media, flyers, word of mouth, and register the lost pet on 24Petconnect.

Report the lost pet to the shelter for the area the animal was found in or take the animal to the shelter. Find the correct shelter.

Stray, trapped cats can be brought into our shelters or picked up by an Animal Care Officer if you are in our jurisdiction. You can purchase a humane cat trap from a hardware store or rent a humane trap from one of our animal shelters in Devore or Big Bear Lake. Please call the shelter first to make sure that a trap is available.

You must be 18 years old and have a valid photo ID. In addition, you need to be aware of the requirements to own a pet at your residence, such as apartment policies, land use zoning ordinances, etc. We reserve the right to deny the adoption of a pet for any reason.

We do not offer veterinary services to the public. The County offers a spay/neuter voucher program for residents in our service area that provides a $25.00 voucher for cat surgeries and $50.00 for dog surgeries at local veterinary clinics/hospitals.
